Female turtles usually return to the same beaches to lay their eggs. This is referred to as natal homing. The turtle’s lifespan is approximately seven to 10 years. There are three major stages in the life cycle. The first phase of the life cycle is when the adult turtles lay their eggs in the sand by the beach. They dig a nest hole in the sand and cover it with sand. The eggs will hatch in six to eight weeks, depending on their species. When they hatch, the baby turtles have a tooth that they use to break their shell. The hatchlings mature into juveniles and eventually leave the nest after about two to three months.
